NEWESD 101 receives WSPRA honors

NPoster EWESD 101 has been honored by the Washington School
Public Relations Association for achievement in school communications.

NEWESD 101 received five awards from WSPRA in its 2012 Excellence in Media competition – two in video production, one in photography and two in writing.

The first video award recognized a parent education piece entitled “Culture of Literacy,” produced in partnership with Thrive by Five. The second video featured the student-run Phoenix Café at Spokane Valley High School in the West Valley School District. See video page

The photography award recognized promotional materials – including a poster (shown here) and electronic reader board materials – produced for last summer’s Starting Strong Conference. NEWESD 101 Videographer/editor Ben Gurtel produced both video pieces and the winning photo materials.

The writing awards were received for stories published in NEWESD 101’s Focus newsletter. The first was a June 2011 feature on Odessa High School science student Kira Powell. The second, published in September 2011, profiled Teacher of the Year John Hagney from Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane.
